Glasses: Eyes must be clearly visible with no reflection or glare on the glasses. Tinted glasses should be avoided (exceptions may be made for the visually impaired) and thick frames should be avoided. Coloured contact lenses are not allowed, as they may lead to visa rejection or difficulty at immigration.

Head coverings: Not permitted except for religious or medical reasons; facial features from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead, and both edges of the face, must be clearly shown.

Expression & pose: Neutral expression (mouth closed) with natural skin tone; face forward, looking directly at the camera with eyes open and clearly visible; no hair covering the eyebrows or eyes, and both edges of the face clearly visible.

1. Take or choose a photo shot straight on, from about arm's length or further, in even light with no shadow falling on the face or the wall behind it. Phone selfies taken close up distort the face and are a common rejection reason.
2. Stand far enough from the wall that you cast no shadow on it. The background needs to be plain white — the tool fills only the area outside your photo's edges, it does not replace the wall behind you.
3. Drop the photo into the tool above. Nothing is uploaded; the file is read directly by your browser.
4. Drag the blue marker to the very top of the head, including hair, and the red marker to the bottom of the chin. This is the measurement every official spec is written against.
5. Check the head-height readout. It should sit between 32 mm and 36 mm; the panel turns green when it does.
6. Download the photo. If the result would exceed the 5 MB upload limit, it is compressed to fit before saving.

Drawn from the official guidance rather than guesswork. Most rejections are not about dimensions at all:

• Red-eye
• Shadows or reflections on the face or background
• Hair covering the eyebrows or eyes
• Tinted glasses without a visual-impairment exception, or thick frames
• Coloured contact lenses
• Head covering worn for a non-religious, non-medical reason
• Photo more than six months old
• Below 413 x 531 px, or a file larger than 5 MB

A Taiwan (ROC) Passport Photo is 35 × 45 mm — about 1.38 × 1.77 inches. The head must measure 32–36 mm from the crown of the head to the bottom of the chin — a 4 mm window, tight enough that eyeballing the crop will usually miss it. The background must be plain white. Digital uploads must be no larger than 5 MB. The photo must have been taken within the last 6 months.

The Bureau of Consular Affairs' own specification page gives figures in both metric and imperial units directly: a 32-36 mm (1.26-1.42 in) chin-to-crown head height corresponding to 70-80% of the photo, alongside a minimum digital resolution of 413 x 531 px, 24-bit RGB colour, and a 5 MB file-size ceiling. Coloured contact lenses are explicitly flagged as a possible cause of visa or immigration problems, which is an unusually specific warning for a passport-photo page.
