Argentine passport photo

Glasses: Not permitted ('sin anteojos').

Head coverings: Hats are not permitted ('sin sombrero').

Crop a photo to the official Argentina spec and check the head height as you go — free, and entirely in your browser.

1. Take or choose a photo shot straight on, from about arm's length or further, in even light with no shadow falling on the face or the wall behind it. Phone selfies taken close up distort the face and are a common rejection reason.
2. Stand far enough from the wall that you cast no shadow on it. The background needs to be white — the tool fills only the area outside your photo's edges, it does not replace the wall behind you.
3. Drop the photo into the tool above. Nothing is uploaded; the file is read directly by your browser.
4. Drag the blue marker to the very top of the head, including hair, and the red marker to the bottom of the chin. This is the measurement every official spec is written against.
5. Download the photo, or generate a print sheet if you need physical copies.

Drawn from the official guidance rather than guesswork. Most rejections are not about dimensions at all:

• Wearing a hat or eyeglasses
• Background not white
• Full-length or close-up framing instead of half-bust

More than one official source publishes a figure for this, and they do not match. Both are shown rather than one being picked silently:

• Number of photos required: One source says 1 photo. Another says 2 photos.

When this happens, the office that will receive your application is the authority worth asking. Neither of us can resolve a contradiction in their own documentation.

A Argentine Passport Photo is 40 × 40 mm — about 1.57 × 1.57 inches. That is not the 35 × 45 mm size most countries use, so a generic "passport photo" crop will be the wrong shape. The background must be white.

Argentina's passport is issued domestically by RENAPER, but RENAPER's own site (argentina.gob.ar/interior/renaper, mitramite.renaper.gob.ar) publishes no photo specification. These figures instead come from Argentine consulates abroad, which handle passport issuance for citizens overseas under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Cancillería). Consulates agree on a 4 x 4 cm white-background photo without a hat or glasses, framed at half-bust, but differ on how many copies to bring — one according to the Rome consulate, two according to Madrid — so this is recorded as a conflict; bringing two is the safer choice. Only fingerprint and signature biometrics, not the photograph itself, are captured at the consulate appointment.
