Read this before you rely on the numbers below. The issuing authority's own specification page could not be read, so these figures come from a different official government source — an embassy or a local-government mirror of the national standard. They are not invented, but they are one step removed. Confirm with the office receiving your application.
You may not need to prepare a photo at all. Colombia's Cancillería states plainly, for adults and minors alike: 'No es necesario llevar fotos' — it is not necessary to bring photos, because the photograph is taken at the office as part of 'la toma de la fotografía' during the appointment. No size, background or digital specification is published, since there is nothing for an applicant to prepare. The Cancillería's main domestic pages (cancilleria.gov.co) returned repeated server errors on every attempt to read them directly, so this is sourced from a consulate page under the same ministry.

How to take and crop the photo
Colombia photographs applicants at the appointment, so there may be nothing for you to crop — free, and entirely in your browser.
- Take or choose a photo shot straight on, from about arm's length or further, in even light with no shadow falling on the face or the wall behind it. Phone selfies taken close up distort the face and are a common rejection reason.
- Stand far enough from the wall that you cast no shadow on it. The background needs to be not applicable — captured on site — the tool fills only the area outside your photo's edges, it does not replace the wall behind you.
- Drop the photo into the tool above. Nothing is uploaded; the file is read directly by your browser.
- Drag the blue marker to the very top of the head, including hair, and the red marker to the bottom of the chin. This is the measurement every official spec is written against.
- Download the photo, or generate a print sheet if you need physical copies.
Background colour and other notes

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

Colombia requires not applicable — captured on site, so photograph yourself against a matching wall.
The fill colour setting only paints the area outside your photo's edges when the required crop is larger than the image you supplied.
