Glasses: Eyewear is not permitted unless worn for religious purposes.

Head coverings: Headgear is not permitted unless worn for religious purposes. Full face, forehead and ears must be clearly visible.

Crop a photo to the official Ghana spec and check the head height as you go — free, and entirely in your browser.

1. Take or choose a photo shot straight on, from about arm's length or further, in even light with no shadow falling on the face or the wall behind it. Phone selfies taken close up distort the face and are a common rejection reason.
2. Stand far enough from the wall that you cast no shadow on it. The background needs to be white — the tool fills only the area outside your photo's edges, it does not replace the wall behind you.
3. Drop the photo into the tool above. Nothing is uploaded; the file is read directly by your browser.
4. Drag the blue marker to the very top of the head, including hair, and the red marker to the bottom of the chin. This is the measurement every official spec is written against.
5. Download the photo, or generate a print sheet if you need physical copies.

Drawn from the official guidance rather than guesswork. Most rejections are not about dimensions at all:

• Eyewear or headgear worn for non-religious reasons
• A photograph of a printed photo rather than an original digital image
• Background not white
• Photo more than six months old
• Forehead, eyes or ears not clearly visible

More than one official source publishes a figure for this, and they do not match. Both are shown rather than one being picked silently:

• Photo submission method and size: One source says Digital upload only (no physical print); a recent (six months or less) white-background JPG/JPEG uploaded online, plus an additional photo captured at the Mission during the in-person appointment. Another says Four physical 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm colour prints on a plain white background, without a hat or sunglasses.

When this happens, the office that will receive your application is the authority worth asking. Neither of us can resolve a contradiction in their own documentation.

The background must be white. The photo must have been taken within the last 6 months.

Most Ghanaian missions now run the online passport application: applicants upload a recent (within six months), white-background JPG/JPEG photo — no physical print is required — and a separate photo is also captured at the Mission during the in-person appointment. The Ghana Embassy in Oslo's page, however, still describes an older paper-based route requiring four physical 3.5 x 4.5 cm white-background prints without a hat or sunglasses. This looks like a genuine difference between missions rather than a single settled rule, so it is recorded as a conflict below — confirm with your specific mission before preparing a photo. No digital pixel dimensions or file-size limit are published on either route.
