Glasses, head coverings, expression and children
Glasses: Glasses are not permitted in a passport photo.
Head coverings: Permitted for religious or medical reasons if the wearer will consistently use the same headwear at future identity checks, provided it does not obscure the face or alter its natural contours.
Expression & pose: Neutral expression, mouth closed, gaze directed straight at the camera lens, photographed full-frontal with both eyes, eyebrows and ears completely visible.
Children & infants: The same requirements apply to children as to adults.
How to take and crop the photo
Crop a photo to the official Norway spec and check the head height as you go — free, and entirely in your browser.
- Take or choose a photo shot straight on, from about arm's length or further, in even light with no shadow falling on the face or the wall behind it. Phone selfies taken close up distort the face and are a common rejection reason.

Why Norway photos get rejected
Drawn from the official guidance rather than guesswork. Most rejections are not about dimensions at all:
- Wearing glasses
- Eyebrows, eyes or ears hidden by hair or headwear
- Head tilted, turned, or not facing the camera directly
- More than one person in the frame
Background colour and other notes
The head, including hair, must fill 70% of the image height.
Politiet's own quality-criteria poster describes the pose, expression and headwear rules in detail and illustrates a correctly framed example with the head filling roughly 70% of the image, but it does not state a print size in millimetres, a recency limit, or any digital pixel, DPI or file-size figure. Those numbers, often quoted as 35 × 45 mm on commercial photo sites, could not be traced to this or any other Politiet page, so they are left blank rather than assumed.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
