Read this before you rely on the numbers below. The issuing authority's own specification page could not be read, so these figures come from a different official government source — an embassy or a local-government mirror of the national standard. They are not invented, but they are one step removed. Confirm with the office receiving your application.

Glasses, head coverings, expression and children

Glasses: Only prescription glasses may be worn; sunglasses and similar accessories are not permitted.

Head coverings: Hats and other accessories that hide the hair or face are not permitted.

Expression & pose: Head straight, not tilted or turned to either side, neutral expression with the mouth closed.

Children & infants: The same rules apply to children and infants.

How to take and crop the photo

Crop a photo to the official Turkey spec and check the head height as you go — free, and entirely in your browser.

  1. Take or choose a photo shot straight on, from about arm's length or further, in even light with no shadow falling on the face or the wall behind it. Phone selfies taken close up distort the face and are a common rejection reason.
  2. Stand far enough from the wall that you cast no shadow on it. The background needs to be plain white, no patterns — the tool fills only the area outside your photo's edges, it does not replace the wall behind you.
  3. Drop the photo into the tool above. Nothing is uploaded; the file is read directly by your browser.
  4. Drag the blue marker to the very top of the head, including hair, and the red marker to the bottom of the chin. This is the measurement every official spec is written against.
  5. Download the photo, or generate a print sheet if you need physical copies.
Why Turkey photos get rejected

Drawn from the official guidance rather than guesswork. Most rejections are not about dimensions at all:

  • Background not plain white, or patterned
  • Photo more than six months old
  • Head tilted or turned, or a non-neutral expression
  • Eyes closed or not focused on the camera
  • Sunglasses or head-covering accessories
  • Damaged, wrinkled or creased photo
Background colour and other notes

A Turkish Biometric Passport Photo is 50 × 60 mm. That is not the 35 × 45 mm size most countries use, so a generic "passport photo" crop will be the wrong shape. The background must be plain white, no patterns. The photo must have been taken within the last 6 months.

This consulate-hosted copy of the biometric photo rules, distributed under the mfa.gov.tr domain, is the clearest readable official source found. The Directorate General of Population and Citizenship Affairs' (NVI) own second-generation passport instruction circular, which is likely the authoritative version, is blocked from automated reading by its own robots.txt, so this row is marked official-secondary. No digital pixel, DPI or file-size specification is given in the readable document.

Turkey photo questions

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The cropping, resizing and compressing all happen inside this page, using your browser's own image APIs. There is no server to upload to — the site is static files. Open your browser's network tab, use the tool, and you can watch nothing leave.

It also keeps working with your Wi-Fi switched off once the page has loaded.

What size is a Turkish Biometric Passport Photo?

50 × 60 mm, according to Consulate General of the Republic of Türkiye — Biyometrik Fotoğraf Özellikleri (Biometric Photo Specifications).

Can this tool change my background?

No, and that is deliberate. Background replacement means guessing where your hair ends, and the guess is visible — a halo or a chewed-up fringe is exactly the kind of artefact that gets a photo rejected as digitally altered. Turkey requires plain white, no patterns, so photograph yourself against a matching wall.

The fill colour setting only paints the area outside your photo's edges when the required crop is larger than the image you supplied.

How recent does the photo have to be?

Taken within the last 6 months. Reusing the photo from your previous passport is a standard rejection reason.

Can I wear glasses?

Only prescription glasses may be worn; sunglasses and similar accessories are not permitted.

Are head coverings allowed?

Hats and other accessories that hide the hair or face are not permitted.

Do the rules differ for babies and children?

The same rules apply to children and infants.

Will a photo from this tool definitely be accepted?

Nobody can promise that, and any site that does is selling you certainty it does not have. A photo is judged on framing, background, lighting, expression, sharpness and how recent it is. This tool handles the geometry and the file size precisely; the rest is down to how the photo was taken. The requirements here were read from Consulate General of the Republic of Türkiye — Biyometrik Fotoğraf Özellikleri (Biometric Photo Specifications) on 2026-07-28 — check the source before you submit, because rules change.
