Glasses, head coverings, expression and children
Head coverings: The photograph must be taken full face without a hat or veil.
Children & infants: Three copies of a recent photograph of a child must be submitted with the application form; the reverse of one copy must be endorsed by a recommender confirming it is a true likeness of the applicant.
How to take and crop the photo
Crop a photo to the official Uganda spec and check the head height as you go — free, and entirely in your browser.
- Take or choose a photo shot straight on, from about arm's length or further, in even light with no shadow falling on the face or the wall behind it. Phone selfies taken close up distort the face and are a common rejection reason.

Why Uganda photos get rejected
Drawn from the official guidance rather than guesswork. Most rejections are not about dimensions at all:
- Photograph mounted onto the application form
- Printed on glazed photographic paper
- Wearing a hat or veil
- Photograph exceeding the maximum permitted 2.5-inch size
Background colour and other notes
The only numeric figure that could be sourced comes from the Passport Regulations, 2004 (a Statutory Instrument still hosted on the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control's own site): the photograph 'must not be more than 2.5 inches', must not be mounted, and must be printed on thin, non-glazed photographic paper. The regulation does not state whether the 2.5-inch limit applies to width, height, or both, so no width/height figure is shown here rather than guess a shape. This is a pre-digital-era rule; the current online application portal (passports.go.ug) could not be found to publish its own photo specification, so confirm current requirements with the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control before applying.
